Community Partner Updates – June 2010

Oshawa Community Health Centre is excited to announce that we have been the recipient of a generous donation from Green Shield Canada’s Social Allocation Fund. The company generously donated $3600 towards our Community Kitchen Program.  This program provides participants with the opportunity to plan, prepare, and cook nutritious and healthy meals on a budget. The program will promote healthy eating, the development of new skills and increased social networks.

We are very appreciative of Green Shield Canada’s support!

General Mills Canada, through their Champions for Healthy Kids Grant has kindly donated $5,000 towards our Youth League Sports Zone.  Youth League Sports Zone (YLSZ) provides Oshawa youth (6-19 years) free access to fitness, recreational, social, educational, and leadership opportunities.  This is one of our largest programs and sees over 400 children attend on a regular basis.  General Mills Canada felt that YLSZ aligned with their own commitment to improving youth nutrition and fitness habits in our community.

The CAW Local 222 Social Justice Fund donated over $6200 to the Hope Centre of Learning.  The objective of the Hope Centre of Learning is to enhance people’s opportunity for learning.  This generous donation will assist us in delivering the H.E.A.R.T. (Homework, Education, Activity & Reading Together ) Program which was developed to improve children’s literacy skills.  The program facilitators help the participants with their homework and teach them to learn to read and write through fun and interactive methods.

Oshawa Community Health Centre is very appreciative to these community programs for their generosity and support!  Without our community partners we would not be able to deliver the amazing programs that Oshawa Community Health Centre is known for.
